Compare Mac and mobile apps: a practical buying checklist
Choose by the job you need done, not by an unsupported speed claim. This is a decision guide, not a laboratory benchmark or a hands-on performance review. Prices, compatibility and subscriptions can change; check the current store listing before purchasing.
Sweep and CleanMyMac: what to check before cleaning a Mac
Our Sweep directory page is a starting point for its current store link. MacPaw describes CleanMyMac as a cleaner and maintenance tool with features including junk cleanup, app removal and malware scanning. These descriptions do not establish which app is faster or safer on your Mac.
- Choose the job: removing large personal files is different from clearing application caches or scanning for malware. Check whether the feature you need is included in the selected plan.
- Protect your data: keep a backup, review the proposed deletion list and exclude folders you need. Do not run two cleaners at once.
- Check access: review requested disk permissions and the developer's privacy policy. Native support alone does not prove lower memory usage.
- Compare real cost: note the trial restrictions, renewal price, number of Macs covered and cancellation terms.
Adblocker Pro and 1Blocker: compare on the sites you use
Find the store link through our Adblocker Pro directory page. 1Blocker's official site describes Safari content blocking for ads, trackers and other unwanted content, with filtering on the device. Check its current free and paid features. We have not measured a speed or bandwidth advantage for either product.
- Confirm compatibility: an iOS Safari extension does not necessarily block ads in every app or browser.
- Test normal tasks: sign-in, payment buttons, video playback and news articles should still work. Learn how to allow a trusted site if a filter breaks it.
- Review privacy: inspect extension permissions and the current privacy disclosure rather than assuming every blocker works the same way.
- Compare fairly: use the same device, connection and pages, change one blocker at a time and repeat the test. A single page load is not reliable evidence.
Your five-point shortlist
- Write down the one problem you want to solve.
- Confirm your device and OS are supported.
- Check permissions, trial limits and total subscription cost.
- Test a small, reversible task before relying on the app.
- Keep the app only if it solves the problem without breaking your normal workflow.
